You can film in 4K with your iPhone, of course, but you need a good 4K video editor for Mac to turn the video into something that lets you turn that raw video into something presentable for friends and family. It’s easy to learn and runs extremely fast. I believe you also gain more access to VFX specific programs in Windows (Fusion 7 as recently released as free by BlackMagicDesign as an example). If you’re looking for a quality 4k Editor, we recommend VideoProc. You have to consider a lot of deliverables are in ProRes. If you do decide to go on a Windows based system, I highly recommend Miraizon ProRes in order to be able to render ProRes files on your Windows PC, as long as it is being encoded within QuickTime. At the time I purchased the systems it was more cost effective but I look to move into a Mac system in two-three years time. I run Windows at home because its cheaper and as a single sole user of that system I know what goes on with that system and can troubleshoot it myself. Mac's also have a plethora of more post oriented programs that have helped me out in the past ( Digital Rebellion's various Pro Maintenance tools to trouble shoot a large majority of problems, QuickKeys on Mac to Macro a lot of the work and button pressing I do).ĪVID, the Adobe Suite, DaVinci Resolve, Lightworks are cross platform and run well on both systems.ĭrive compatibility is a non-issue I find for both systems as there is Paragon Software's NTFS for Mac and HFS for Windows. I feel if you start a business and choose to go with windows, you shut out clients that want to rent a suite from you and want to be able to use Final Cut Pro (7 or X), Autodesk Smoke (two programs I can think of off the top of my head). I've worked in various houses to which all have used Mac's and I run a Windows PC and Laptop at home. I'd like to hear your views on this! What system do you use, and why?

If I don't, I won't have any in-house problems. I'd rather buy a new graphics card and throw €500,- at my PC and have it up to date than throw €2500,- at it every 2 years to get a totally new machine.Ĭo-operation 95% of the business uses macs. Now I realize you pay more for the quality and looks (I LOVE their sleek designs), but for my company I want the most bang for my buck and rather not the full ammount at once - especially when I'm just starting out. I will be using the Adobe kit and filming on DSLR's & C100's.Ĭost A Mac with the same specs is more expensive than a Windows PC. I already have a decent machine which will suffice for any work I'll be doing on it soon. I've always worked with Windows myself, and know all the in's and out's. Now there's one question that has been bothering me: is starting a video business with Windows as your base platform a viable option?
